A Metal Mushroom (in some games replaced by either a Metal Cap or Metal Box) is one of Mario's Power-Ups that appears in a few newer games in the Mario series. If Mario eats one, he will transform into Metal Mario and will be invincible for a short period of time. He can also dash into enemies without taking any damage and walk on lava. Mario is also so heavy that he'll sink down in the water, and can't go up by it's stream.
Metal Mushrooms behave like regular Mushrooms, however they drop much faster and make rather quiet metal clanging sounds when they move.
Appearances[]
New Super Mario Bros. X[]
The Metal Mushroom appears in this game. A Metal player will be invincible to and able to kill most enemies. While Metal, certain hard objects like Skewers can be broken as well. Metal players, however, aren't invincible to fire, magic or electrical damage, or any similar damage. The Metal form stacks with regular powerups. An electrical attack will bypass the Metal Mushroom's protection and downgrade the player themself instead of removing their metal coating. Also, a Metal player has normal movement in water and jumps less high than usual. A Metal Mushroom will override every power-up except for Super Stars, Heli-suits and Gold Flowers.
Super Mario Kart X[]
In this game, the Metallic Mushroom gives the player protection to one physical attack and makes them able to drive off-road without penalty, but it runs out over time or when a physical attack hits.
Trivia[]
- Before its appearance in Super Mario Star Journey, the Metal Mushroom truly debuted as the Metal Mushroom Orb in Mario Party 6 and later 7.
- The Metal Mushroom looks very different in Super Mario Star Journey and Super Mario Nation, although they are set to release around the same time.
- It is set to appear in Super Mario 3-D Galaxy but instead of being invincible, Mario can ground pound and all enemies on screen will die.
- In Super Mario Galaxy 3, this mushroom also has the perk of being invulnerable to electricity, which helps in Shock Shine Galaxy. It however cannot walk on lava. It also gives the user a shorter jump.
