Dillon is the main protagonist of his eponymous series. He is a ranger, who helps to protect villagers from threats whom seek the livestock known as Scrogs in exchange for money, which he intends to utilize to pay the deed for his and his partner's childhood home. The typical silent protagonist type, Dillon leaves the talk to Russ, a squirrel who pilots a flying bicycle who serves as a support role.

In his initial debut in Rolling Western, Dillon simply wore a scarf, gloves, boots and a belt but in Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers, he began wearing black leather shirt and pants to match the game's post-apocalytic futuristic look. This change is reflected in the Super Smash Bros. series, where Dillon's look changed from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Dillon's main method of combat is his Rolling Attack, which draws comparisons to another animal protagonist Sonic the Hedgehog, a factoid humorously mentioned visually in the first images showcasing him in Super Smash Bros. 4. Although perhaps one of Nintendo's lesser known franchises, the series enjoyed three games on the 3DS as well as gaining a spot in the Smash series as an Assist Trophy.
