Baden-Baden is a spa town at the north edge of the Black Forest in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg in south west Germany, close to the Rhine and the French border.

Get in

By train

The railway station is on the main line north-south along the Rhine between Basel (Switzerland) and Mannheim and Frankfurt. Trains between Strasbourg (France) and Stuttgart also stop here. The station is several miles from the town centre. Bus 201 runs frequently to the town centre (direction Lichtental/Oberbeuern; get off at Leopoldplatz). Trains: http://www.bahn.de

Get around

The town centre is small enough to walk around. Bus routes radiate from the town centre (Leopoldplatz and Augustaplatz) to the surrounding villages. You must buy a ticket at the machine at the bus stop before boarding. Buses: http://www.karlsruhe.de/kvv/

See

Do

  • Walk along the river Oos or in the hills and forests around the town. The tourist office at the Trinkhalle can sell you a booklet of walks which all start from a bus stop. The walking is generally easy, but if you want to gain height with the minimum of effort, take bus 204/205 to the base station of the Merkur Bergbahn (funicular railway), ride up to the cafe at the top and walk down.
