Nomination statement
Hello, I'm Spicy and I'm applying for Checkuser. I saw the call for CUOS candidates on the Administrators' Noticeboard and I have been encouraged to apply by a few current functionaries. I have been an administrator since April 2023 and a sockpuppet investigations clerk since September 2021. I believe that having access to the checkuser tool would allow me to more effectively serve the community - particularly by addressing the backlog at SPI - and I think that I have sufficient experience with the SPI process to be useful in this role. Thanks for your consideration.
Standard questions for all candidates (Spicy)
[edit]
  1. Please describe any relevant on-Wiki experience you have for this role.
I have been an SPI clerk for over two years and have been one of the more active clerks during that period of time. I am comfortable with evaluating behavioural evidence of sockpuppetry and particularly enjoy working on complex cases. On the technical side of things, my work at SPI has familiarized me with range blocks, proxy detection and the strengths and limitations of the CU tool.
  2. Please outline, without breaching your personal privacy, what off-Wiki experience or technical expertise you have for this role.
I don't have any formal background in networking or computer science but I feel that I have developed an adequate understanding of it, in the Wikipedia context, through my work at SPI, and am willing to consult with functionaries who are more experienced in this area when I am unsure. At my job, I routinely handle confidential health information according to the relevant policies and legislation.
  3. Do you hold advanced permissions (checkuser, oversight, bureaucrat, steward) on this or other WMF projects? If so, please list them. Also, do you have VRT permissions? If so, to which queues?
I don't hold advanced permissions on any project. I do have access to the info-en VRT queue.
