Reversions

[edit]

When taking the time to help the project and revert vandalism, please be sure to revert to the last good edit, not just the last edit. With this edit, for instance, you reverted part of the vandalism but not all of it. Thanks anyway, though. Captainktainer * Talk 06:35, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, a good way to check to see if you're reverting all vandalism is checking the page's history, next to the edit tab. If something has been edited by numerous IPs, comparing edits all the way back to the last obvious good edit, is a good way of seeing if all the IPs have vandalized, or if only the recent ones have. (Hope I'm not confusing.) And don't think we're getting after you. I had that problem many times myself at first. Happy editing. :) -WarthogDemon 04:35, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit to Wii

[edit]

I reverted your edit. The reason the Xbox 360 is listed with the number of titles is because of its limited backwards compatibility (which is gimped because you have to download patches for all those games). This is not needed on the Wii page because ALL GameCube games are backwards compatible with the Wii. TJ Spyke 05:22, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tulane Trivia, Myth, and Lore

[edit]

The section "Tulane Trivia, Myth, and Lore" is almost completely unencyclopedic. (See Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not for what does and does not belong in an encyclopedia) and it sorely lacks citations (See Wikipedia:Attribution for guidelines). If there are good sources for any of this, please add references immediately. Otherwise I'll have to start removing it from the article. --Dystopos 16:17, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • The Green Wave Ambassador's guide would be a passable (but not the best) source for those myths that have a basis in fact. Please note that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a collection of folklore. Perhaps another website would be a better place to document unverifiable tales. --Dystopos 16:21, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly, as you are doing in New Orleans, Louisiana. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you. -- ReyBrujo 02:02, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Just use this time to contact the user and talk in either the article talk page or his user talk page. You can also ask someone at WP:3O to mediate between you both. Hey, sorry for undoing all the stuff you did to the Shockers page - I wasn't just being mean, because the information and updates you provided are excellent - it's just that I have been working on the pages for all 60-plus PDL teams for the past 18 months, fine tuning a standard template, trying to make sure that each team's page has as much info as possible, and under standard headings to that there is a consistent look and consistent content on each page, and I would really like to maintain that! Please continue to contribute info to the Shockers page, because the more detail we get from locals the better, but please don't delete redlink to players (it helps with ensuring that player bios are uo-to-date if I can see what links to where), and please don't change the category ordering :) Thanks! --JonBroxton (talk) 11:21, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough, I absolutely understand that Wikipedia is a continually-improving and expanding resource, and different opinions are always welcome. I can see that you're spending a LOT of time updating all the articles this morning, which is great, so I'm not going to complain. Now I think about it, I actually think you're right in moving the list of former players. However, I'm going to put the cities where stadiums are located back in the list of former stadia. I find having them there enormously helpful, and I'm sure a lot of other readers will too, as it gives a more detailed history of the team's movements over the years. Plus it also provides some geographic specificity which non-locals might not be aware of. I think between us we are going to make these articles great! :D --JonBroxton (talk) 22:57, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Re: stadiums - good idea, I'll do that too. --JonBroxton (talk) 23:10, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So it looks like we finished - good job! Are you going to go back and apply your new standardization to the teams no longer in the league? I've been working on the articles for teams which played but have now folded, and have finished all the way back to 2001 I think. BTW, are you a Shockers fan? Do you get to many games? --JonBroxton (talk) 00:18, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, yeah it's a big job, but worthwhile. And, yes, I have a favorite team - San Fernando Valley Quakes. I haven't missed a home game in 3 years, have travelled to the playoffs twice with them, and am now considered part of th "backroom team" - I write the game day programme, edit the website, and do various publicity/media relations things for them. I love it! --JonBroxton (talk) 00:39, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Marchout.jpg

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Marchout.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:56, 7 October 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 16:56, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:SpiritDBClogo.png

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:SpiritDBClogo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors wanted at LSU

[edit]

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian in Louisiana. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at Louisiana State University, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).

If you live near Baton Rouge and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 17:08, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:TUTurchin.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Kelly hi! 11:44, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Replacing a free image with a non-free image which as you did here is a violation of the non-free content policy: WP:NFCC#1. Using a non-free image in that context at all is a violation of the non-free content guideline: WP:NFCC#UUI point 14, as I indicated in my edit summaries when I removed such uses of the file. Pursuing a slew of such policy violations without a talk page comment or edit summary is at the very least inconsiderate.

If you have any questions or concerns about the policy, feel free to let me know, but please refrain from reverting to using non-free versions of the logo in articles about the team seasons. VernoWhitney (talk) 03:57, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I honestly didn't read the article you referenced and unfortunately assumed it was removed because the logo's use rationale wasn't listed for that individual article. That's entirely my mistake; I wasn't "pursuing a slew of...policy violations," but rather forgot to indicate the other changes made that I thought rectified the problem.
However, I disagree that #14 applies in the first place. A football season article does not represent an instance of a perennial event but rather an individual team, and in fact each is named accordingly, ending with the words "football team" to signify they are about the group of players, coaches, and staff for that season, and not about that year's NCAA football season.
The logo in question is an official logo, and there is no free equivalent of it. The "free version that has the same effect" (File:Tulane Green Wave Wordmark.jpg) is in reality still a trademarked logo of the university, and using just those words (especially in any font and color combination that resembles the trademarked logo) immediately changes its status to restricted and non-free, just like the T wave logo used before (see http://tulane.edu/news/style/logos/index.cfm). While Wikipedia's guidelines suggest plain typeface constitutes a free logo, it fails to take into account the actual words used, which in this case are in fact trademarked and not free for use, as per Tulane's expressly stated guidelines. As there is no conceivable way to conjure an image that would represent Tulane football, athletics, or any individual teams without it being considered a "non-free logo," we are left with no free alternative and brought to the conclusion that a non-free logo may indeed be used for Tulane athletics articles. Additionally, as both logos are non-free, the T wave should be used, as it is (1) much more commonly used by the University's athletics department and (2) maintains the quality intended by the University without being unnecessarily high resolution, a pivotal requirement of non-free media usage on Wikipedia that is absolutely not met by the wordmark version. Bobster687 (talk) 07:36, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
With regards to whether that point applies or not, you can see the conversation leading up to its addition at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content/Archive 56#Uncceptable image uses which specifically brings up team and season articles. There's also a more recent discussion here involving some different editors which came to the same consensus. To suggest that the article is about the group of players, coaches and staff rather than the season as a whole seems disingenuous given that, for example, 2011 Tulane Green Wave football team contains one sentence about the coach/interim coach, nothing about the players or other stagg and the majority of the space within the article is consumed by standings and scores. The title of an article is not always a completely accurate guide to its content. Now I'm sure the wording of that point in the guideline can be clarified if that's a sticking point, but the principle and supporting policy points remain the same.
Now the non-free content policy requires a free equivalent "that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose", which in this case is to identify the team--which the wordmark does as well as the image logo. When determining whether an image is considered free or non-free we are only looking at it's copyright status, not trademark. WP:LOGO#Trademark concerns touches on this, but thanks to the editorial and non-profit nature of Wikipedia we generally get to ignore trademark concerns. That's just the way it works out, so in the absence of a policy/guideline change, trademark restrictions and Tulane's expressly stated guidelines don't change our standard practice for dealing with images. Image without license

Unspecified source/license for File:TulaneGreenWaveWordmark.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:TulaneGreenWaveWordmark.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 21:08, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:TulaneGreenWaveWordmark.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:44, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Yulman Stadium Render.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Yulman Stadium Render.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mosmof (talk) 04:41, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Georgia Tech–Tulane football rivalry

[edit]

The article Georgia Tech–Tulane football rivalry has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Insufficient significant coverage of this series as a rivalry in multiple, reliable, independent sources as required by WP:NRIVALRY and WP:GNG to establish its notability for inclusion as a stand-alone article. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 00:43, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. AfD head's up: CFB rivalry articles

[edit]

Bob, I'm eyeing these two Tulane college football rivalry article for a trip to AfD. What is needed to preclude that is significant coverage of these series as rivalries in multiple, independent, reliable sources per WP:NRIVRALRY and WP:GNG. As a practical matter that means in-depth coverage as a rivalry in newspaper articles, where the history and significance of the series to the schools and teams is discussed in a meaningful way. In my own estimation, that means a lot than more than old-timey references to "renewing a gridiron rivalry," and one or two-sentence references to a "rivalry." That means real coverage. It also means independent sources -- not yearbooks, school newspapers, game programs, or university, team, conference or NCAA websites. Do you think you can find in-depth coverage? If so, I will give you the time and space to work on these articles . . . . Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 19:45, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
