Query about accuracy of book

[edit]

Hello, I wonder if it is worth highlighting that there are accusations that the book is not fully factually accurate in Ed Moloney's article in Counterpunch, in light of the attention on the book with the new Disney series. https://www.counterpunch.org/2019/05/02/an-american-reporter-in-belfast-how-a-new-yorker-writer-got-so-much-wrong-in-his-bestselling-book-on-the-troubles/ 137.191.234.106 (talk) 16:44, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done I have added mention of Moloney's article as well as one concern he had. There are several allegations in the article. You are free to detail more of them if you wish. Οἶδα (talk) 22:02, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Change from "Television Adaptations" to "Adaptations"

[edit]

Hello @Οἶδα,

I noticed you reverted my change from "Television Adaptations" to "Adaptations," and I just wanted to explain my reasoning.

I changed it to "Adaptations" because it's in line with the Wikipedia Manual of Style for novels, which suggests using broader headings like that to cover all types of adaptations (film, TV, etc.). Even though this page is about a non-fiction book, I think this approach works best here too.

Also, using "Adaptations" makes the heading more flexible for future changes. As other types of adaptations (like film or stage adaptations) might be added later, this keeps things consistent without needing to change the heading again.

I'm open to hearing your thoughts if you think there's another approach that would fit better here. Just let me know!

Hi @Bookleo: Thank you for opening a discussion on the talk page. It was my understanding that such broader headings were to be used for cases where multiple such adaptations existed. There is only one adaptation for this book and it is a television adaptation. And I have not heard anyone suggest we modify headings to account for future changes so that we not "[need] to change the heading again." That would seem to contradict WP:CRYSTAL. And seemingly implies there is some difficulty or impediment to future changes, which I do not see. I also do not see how this edit is in line with MOS:NOVELS except for the mere fact that the heading there is titled 'Adaptations', which it surely would be because it comments on adaptations in general (of which there are many types). It does not appear to state that we ought to use a broader 'Adaptation' heading when there is only one adaptation type. If there were, I would have changed the formatting myself (see Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead for an example). Οἶδα (talk) 22:35, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
