Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) | Mandolone |
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | This photo will show both types of instrument that have caused confusion when trying to define "mandolone" and "liuto". The book James Tyler and Paul Sparks. The Early Mandolin: the Mandolino and the Neapolitan mandoline. Early Music Series, 9. Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1989. x. 186 left confusion as to which instrument was which--was a mandolone a big mandola, or was it something else. In the later book by Paul Sparks Paul Sparks, The Classical Mandolin, Oxford University Press, pages 205, 206, he defined the instruments. The defined instrument for the mandolone, ("much larger than the liuto" with four strings) matches the instruments on the bottom row of the photo. |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
I have not found a free illustration yet. I don't know of a mandolone that I can photograph to create an image. Such instruments are rare in the United States, where I live. |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | I am using this for a single article for the mandolone. If a liuto article is created, this photo will not be necessary on that article because the article can point to the mandolone article with its embedded photo. |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
The commercial interests will not be harmed because the photo on the screen cannot replace the photo on the page; the quality of the online photo is inferior. It is much lower resolution than the print already put online. If anything, it will add to the value of the photo printed in the book, because it will call attention to the book's existence for interested parties to purchase to get more information. |
