Description Distintivo do Comando Militar do Nordeste (CMNE) com heráldica estabelecida pela Portaria nº 294-DECEx/C Ex, de 4 de novembro de 2020, a mesma portaria, no artigo 2, elenca os documentos históricos de criação e de alterações do brasão: "Art. 2º Registrar que o antigo distintivo do IV Exército, atual CMNE, foi aprovado, em sua essência pela Portaria EME nº 167, de 28 DEZ 1971. Foi atualizado pela Portaria Ministerial nº 345, de 15 ABR 1986. Modificado pela Portaria Ministerial nº 778, de 5 DEZ 1995. Alterado pela Portaria Cmt Ex nº 326, de 2 JUN 09, e incrementado pela Portaria Cmt Ex nº 1.002, de 3 AGO 15."
