The 2022 Boca Raton Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 20, 2022, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. EST and televised on ESPN. It was the 9th edition of the Boca Raton Bowl, and was one of the 2022–23 bowl games concluding the 2022 FBS football season. Sponsored by RoofClaim.com, the game was officially known as the RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl.

Teams

Based on conference tie-ins, the game will feature teams from the Group of Five conferences or FBS independent Army. However, because Army was bowl-ineligible, it features a Mid-American Conference team and another FBS independent.

This will be the fourth meeting between Toledo and Liberty; the Rockets have won all three of their previous meetings to date.[4]

Liberty Flames

Liberty began their season, with a win over Southern Miss in four overtimes and a win against UAB. The Flames then lost to ranked #23 Wake Forest. Then went back on track and won six straight games against Akron, Old Dominion, UMass, Gardner–Webb, BYU, and upset Arkansas. The Flames drop a close game against UConn, and Virginia Tech. Then Liberty got blow out by New Mexico State. The Flames end the realgar season at 8–4.

The Flames, an FBS independent, will be coached by interim head coach Josh Aldridge for this bowl game. This will be Liberty's final game as an FBS independent, as the Flames are set to join C–USA in 2023.[5] Liberty has never lost a bowl game with a 3–0 record.

Toledo Rockets

Toledo began their season strong, with a dominant win over LIU and UMass and got blow out by Ohio State and lost a close game to San Diego State. The Rockets then won three straight games against Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Kent State. Then the Rockets drop a close game against Buffalo. They went back on track and beat Eastern Michigan and Ball State. The Rockets drop a close game against hated rival Bowling Green. Toledo drops the last game of the realgar season to Western Michigan. Toledo then kock off Ohio in the MAC Championship. The Rockets end the realgar season at 7–5 and 5–3 in the MAC.

This is Toledo second time playing in the Boca Raton Bowl the first time was in 2015 when they knocked off the #24 Temple.
