Han Jin, co-founder of Lucid

Han Jin (/han ʤɪn/; born Oct. 15, 1988) is co-founder, CEO, and product architect of Lucid VR Inc. (Lucid), a Santa Clara, California-based startup known for inventing, developing and bringing to market the world’s first VR180 camera that captures true 3D virtual reality content, the LucidCam.[1]

In 2017, Jin was on the cover of the May issue of Inc. as part of the magazine’s “30 Under 30” feature.[2] Forbes listed Jin as one of the Forbes 30 Under 30 in consumer technology in November 2017.[3] Jin previously won an Edison Award,[4] the Lumiere Award[5] and was listed[6] as one of the Red Herring 2016 Top 100.

Education and career

Jin was born in China and grew up in Germany.[2] He attended the University of California Berkeley as a graduate student, then worked at flash memory company SanDisk.[7] While at SanDisk he applied for an O-1 visa, after which he left SanDisk to start Lucid.[7]

Lucid VR

Jin co-founded Lucid in January 2015 with the company’s chief technical officer, Adam Rowell.[8] The company’s flagship product was the first-ever high definition VR180 camera in the market, the LucidCam, that captures the world in 180 degrees and 3D, much like human eyes.[8] The LucidCam is different from other VR cameras like 360 degree cameras in that it creates true 3D images and gives you a field of view similar to your own eyes, rather than 2D images stitched by software into a circular panoramic image.[9]

Initially Jin and Rowell ran a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to fund the LucidCam idea which raised $116,554 in total.[10] The company since has raised $2.8 million in venture capital, including publicly traded company Wistron Corporation, a Taiwanese original design manufacturer.[11] LucidVR has eight employees and reported revenue of $500,000 as of May 2016.[8]
