Pixetell is an online collaboration software product by Ontier Inc. of Portland, OR.[1] It can be used in conjunction with email, office documents and online systems to add voice, images, video and embedded file attachments.[2]
Messages can be composed of screen recordings, webcam recordings, video import, and voice cards. Files can be attached to Pixetell messages.[3] Conversations can take place within Pixetell, or embedded into external collaboration platforms such as Microsoft SharePoint, SAP, Jive, Google Wave, Google Docs, Basecamp software, eBay, and others.[4]
Pixetell messages may be received and played on Windows, Mac OS, or Linux with an Adobe Flash-enabled web browser.[5]
Technical details
Pixetell messages may be composed on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. A client similar to Cisco Systems WebEx enables composition of messages and also offers content management features for managing messages, much like Microsoft Outlook and other email services.[6] The client enables users to do the following: search for sent or published messages; deletion; receipt tracking (total views); password protection; and conversation management.[7] Pixetell supports webcam clips, webcam embedded into screen recordings, and import of Windows video formats.[8]
User interface
- Accelerator: located at the top of the desktop and is accessible in all modes of computer use. The Pixetell Accelerator provides access to the Pixetell Manager, Settings, account statistics, Screen recording, Webcam recording, and Voice Card recording.[9]
- Manager: provides users with the ability to manage sent/published messages, performance tracking, drafts and account management.
- Composer: provides the ability to compose new messages composed of multiple Pixetell clips. The composer enables reuse and editing of all content types.[10]
- Editor: Pixetell messages allow the user to view the audio waveform of all clip types and split out undesirable parts of the message.[11]
- Reuse: Pixetell supports reuse of content by downloading previously uploaded messages to the drafts folder. Users may drag clips from the composer to the desktop or complete messages from the Drafts folder to the desktop for later editing and reuse. Files may be reused later by double-clicking or dragging into another composition. Edit features enable existing messages to be reused for other conversations (i.e. readdressing a message to someone else).[12]
Message composition / recording
Pixetell supports four media formats: Screen recordings, webcam recordings, video imports, and Voice Card recordings. The screen recording mode enables the user to switch between applications while recording the message. The recording can be paused, stopped and restarted, and specific instances can be edited out of a recording. A mouse can be used to highlight where on the screen the recipient should look.[13]
Message distribution
References to the message can be sent via email, link in online discussions, or embedded into online content systems. For archiving purposes and reuse, Pixetell messages and clips may be stored on the local desktop in a proprietary format.
Large file delivery
Large files may be sent, received, and tracked by dragging a file into a Pixetell message itself.[14]
