Boyars (Romanian: boier pronounced [boˈjer] ) were the feudal Wallachian and Moldavian aristocrats. They were the large landowners who owned domains, including whole villages with Romanian serfs and Roma or Tatar slaves. A hereditary title, it was granted by the Hospodar.
