Mira Road is a rapidly developing town. Malls and super markets have populated the town and its vicinity in the decade 2000-2010.

History

When Mumbai's real estate prices began escalating during 1970s, the middle-class started moving to suburbs like Virar and Vasai. In this time Mira Road was mainly an agricultural area. In addition, being part of a Gram Panchayat, it did not really spur builders to consider large-scale development in the area. As a result, no one moved into Mira Road, within a few years however, a corporation was established and townships began developing which acted as a stimuls for progress.

By 1980, builders had started buying agricultural land and developing townships. With the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation lending a helping hand to provide basic facilities, the population and has increased substantially over in the decade 2000-2010. The town is in close proximity to the Western Express Highway. These factors have been instrumental in the town's development into an important residential area.

According to the census of 2006, Mira-Bhayandar had a population of 7.28 Lakhs. The 2001 census says that males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%.
