About
Esquerda Marxista (Template:Lang-en) is a Brazilian Trotskyist organization, a recognized tendency within the ruling Workers' Party.
The organization is now affiliated with the International Marxist Tendency (IMT), but it was founded as a section of the Lambertist Fourth International. It split with them over the issue of factory occupations. In 2008, their annual congress voted unanimously in favour of affiliating to the IMT.[1]
In the 2009 Workers' Party leadership election, the Esquerda Marxista slate received 3,407 votes and won a seat on the national leadership.[2]
Esquerda Marxista has a majority in the Movimento Negro Socialista (Socialist Black Movement, MNS), including President José Carlos Miranda who is well known in Brazil and is regularly invited to debate on television on issues of racism.[3][4] The organisation has played a leading role in FRETCO, the Brazilian movement of factory occupations.
