The Lord of Frenzied Flame is no lord at all. When the land they preside over is lifeless.Melina — warning the Tarnished over the wickedness of becoming a Lord of Chaos.

The Lord of Frenzied Flame (狂い火の王, Kurui Hi no Ō), also known as the Lord of Chaos (混沌の王, Konton no Ō),[3] is a status and title in the world of Elden Ring. It refers to the prophesied, messiah-like figure of the Frenzied Flame and its ailing followers. Promising them salvation from their torment, despair, their affliction, every sin, and every curse by melting it all away.[4]

Overview[]

A chosen few of those afflicted with the flame of frenzy are capable of transforming into the Lord after death. The strength of its form can seemingly vary depending on its original host, with several having proven capable of becoming one. However, many of them were either too weak-willed or physically feeble to accomplish anything, causing them to be considered frauds and failures in the eyes of their followers.[citation needed]

Similar to the power of its namesake, it has an uncanny ability to erase the original identity of its vessel. It can emerge from its host even if they don't want it to[5] and can even prompt them to abruptly die at a moment's notice to force their transformation into itself.[6]

Once a Lord of Frenzied Flame manifests, the head of the original host is replaced by a black hole with yellow flames spewing out of its core, erasing any visible trace of the original host's identity. It moves their bodies around with mannerisms completely alien to not only the original host but even other chaos followers as well. Making gestures that suggest complete delight and overwhelming euphoria at the sight of its flames consuming everything in its path. An ironic contrast for something supposedly being born from unspeakable torment and despair.

While it is seen as a savior from the perspective of those stricken by madness, it is a harbinger of insanity and death to everyone else. A menace to all life and the joys of living.

  6. In the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending, the player suddenly keels over in pain when approaching fractured Marika and is completely unable to pick any other ending unless they've first suppressed the Frenzied Flames hold on them, through the use of Miquella's Needle. This is unlike all of the other endings, as the player can meet the requirements for all of them at the same time but is still given a choice of which ending they want.
