In Dungeons & Dragons, wyrm is a term used to refer to a dragon or dragonlike creature.
It is sometimes used to refer to the oldest age categories of true dragons. The oldest generally accepted category is great wyrm, although some even more ancient dragons such as the white dragon Rhule are described as an elder wyrm.
Creative origins[]
The word "wyrm" derives from the Old Norse ormr, meaning a worm, serpent or mythical dragon.
