The God Killer is a sword created by Hephaestus that can, as the name implies, kill Gods.

History

To follow through on a Fallen God's final request should he ever meet his demise, the Greek forge deity Hephaestus offered the lethal assassin Deathstroke a contract in the assassination of an old foe of Olympus named Lapetus, a Greek Titan.[1] As Slade was mortal, he was granted the use of this sword to enable him to fight and kill gods. The sword holds many wondrous attributes, although its primary directive is the slaying of immortals. To some degree it also possesses a consciousness of its own, capable of altering its physical form.

Grail possessed the blade during her usurpation of the throne of Themyscira from Hippolyta, and upon her defeat, it was stolen by Lex Luthor who later gave it to the Cheetah as part of his plans.[2] The sword would be technically modified by Apex Lex's scientists to be usable only by Ms. Minerva, thanks to a nanotech plasma which is biologically keyed to her genetic signature. It's power is then magnified via a secondary nanoplasm introduction disguised as a fluid data link disruptor made by Veronica Cale.[3] Cheetah would break in the God Killer sword by murdering the goddess of love, Aphrodite, in the home of her old friend turned enemy Diana.

Despite an initial defeat, Diana was able to fend of Cheetah and destroy the God Killer sword with the help of Aphrodite's successor. God Killer would later be reforged however, using old magics by the Dark Fates.[4] The sword was returned to Cheetah, who had been imprisoned by the Amazons of Paradise Island. Cheetah was persuaded by the fates into razing the home of the Amazons in order to draw out their divine patron Hera so that Cheetah could slay her. Cheetah believed this would 'free' the Amazons from their gods and mean she could repay her debt to Diana for freeing her form the dark god Urzkaratga.[5] While Cheetah was able to lure Hera down to earth, she was ultimately defeated and dissuaded from killing the goddess by Diana who took the God Killer from her and placed it in the care of her fellow Amazon's where it has remained to this date.[6]

Capabilities

God Killer can adjust its weight and crackles with an eldritch energy that drives the weapon on. The energy strengthens the user in the heat of harsh battle, guiding and partially controlling their actions, as well as directing them to the point of the destination they wish to reach.

The God Killer has the ability to shape-shift depending on the users own thoughts and instincts, but often will push said wielders thought process to further it's own ends.[1] The God Killer can take on many forms to better accommodate both ones fighting style as well as adapt to stronger opponents such as Gods and/or godlike beings.[7] Some forms it can take on its own are: a Bo Staff, Twin Blades, and a Cat o' Nine Tails for binding & ensnaring.

The God Killer also possesses the ability to unleash vastly powerful shock blasts with decimating effect.[8]

Its edge is able to absorb and redirect whatever force is unleashed upon with twice the impact, even those of a veteran Kryptonian, such as Superman. It can be also be magically recalled to its owner. If ever shattered or somehow broken, The God Killer can repair itself.

When in contact with another divine source, it can feed a deities memories into itself and transfer them to the swords handler.[9]

The sword had undergone a few alterations wherein it enables a recall to ones hand and further strengthen its wielder.[10] Luthor tempered this weapon so only Cheetah could utilize it and Ms. Cale had scientists create secondary microplasm to further increase its power and Minerva's bond to it. Upon being remade by the Dark Fates after it was destroyed, the skein now emits a periwinkle hue and crackles with chthonian power originating from the Dark.[4]
