Blue Drakes, also known as Drakes or Wyverns, are enemies in Dark Souls.
Location[]
Several can be found in the Valley of Drakes, in front of the sealed gate leading to New Londo Ruins.
Description[]
They have blueish indigo scales, are capable of flight, and strongly resemble the Hellkite Dragon, however, Blue Drakes are smaller and breathe Lightning.
Strategies[]
A good way to fight Blue Drakes is to have a shield that can block at least 80 percent Lightning damage.
Staying in close-quarters with a Blue Drake will trigger its melee attack until the player moves far enough away. Moving behind it can cause it to fly in the air and shower an area of effect Lightning attack. One should also be cautious of straying too far away, as the majority of their attacks exceed their lock-on distance. This can cause players attempting to backpedal out of the way of an attack to spontaneously turn around and cease blocking.
It is safer to fight these creatures one by one in an open area.

Trivia[]
- Unlike most dragon-kin enemies, they are highly resistant to lightning damage, but are very weak against fire damage.
- The sound they make is identical to the one made by a dragon in Demon's Souls.
