Rite of Kindling is a special utility item in Dark Souls.
In-Game Description
- This secret rite allows bonfires to be bolstered further with Kindling, so that even more Estus can be collected.
- Kindling was a sacred rite passed down among clerics, but all Undead can imitate the process in the same manner that they restore their Hollowing with humanity. How peculiar that humans had found little use for humanity until they turned Undead.
Availability[]
Defeat Pinwheel, boss of The Catacombs, to obtain the Rite of Kindling.
Effect[]
With the Rite of Kindling, all bonfires may be kindled up to three times for a total of 20 Estus Flask charges. Each act of kindling requires one Humanity.
Notes[]
The Rite of Kindling is lost with every playthrough, but kindled bonfires remain at the level that they were bolstered. Therefore, it is a good idea to kindle important bonfires before moving to NG+, as it may be quite a while before players have access to the Rite of Kindling again.
Any bonfires that were previously kindled just twice before going into NG+ (i.e. 15 Estus Flask charges), when encountered in NG+, can be kindled a third time (to 20 Estus Flasks charges) without having to first reacquire the Rite of Kindling.
Plot[]
Reah of Thorolund and her followers were seeking the rite, which was also the reason why they went down into the Catacombs. Strangely enough, they traveled past the point where it was found (off Pinwheel) and ended up in the Tomb of the Giants, where most of them met their demise.
