Intelligence is a stat in Dark Souls.

Description[]

Intelligence, also called INT, is used to meet requirements for spells, Catalysts, and melee weapons; spell softcaps differ from melee softcaps. INT softcaps for spells are at 40/45/50. The INT softcaps for unique weapons that are upgraded with Twinkling Titanite, Demon Titanite, and Dragon Scales is 40, with 50 INT being the softcap for all other types of INT scaling weapons.

The amount of damage you receive from spells does not scale linearly with the amount of INT you have. Spell damage directly correlates with the Magic Adjustment (MagAdjust) of the catalyst you use to cast spells, which is adjusted a slight, but not insignificant, amount by your INT stat. You should be expecting your damage to correlate more with the catalyst you are using rather than how high your intelligence is, with standard stat scaling being not as much of a factor. You should aim to level your INT only as high as the highest requirement spell or catalyst you intend on using. If you are trying to maximize your damage output, 41 and 44 are good thresholds to keep in mind because of Logan’s Catalyst being the best to use starting at 41 Int and the sorcery Crystal Soul Spear requiring 44 INT to cast.

Weapon Scaling[]

The following are weapons that scale with Intelligence, and their level of scaling, when not upgraded. Weapon scaling may change when upgraded.

Notes[]

  • The sorcery with the highest Intelligence requirement, White Dragon Breath, requires 50 Intelligence.
  • The Pyromancy Flame scales with Intelligence. However, the scaling does not increase adjustment for pyromancies, nor does it increase the damage the Pyromancy Flame deals with its Strong Attack.
