Birthday Fishes

Our son-in-law is fishing mad and goes out mostly on his fishing jetski.  He is very generous with his catch and we enjoy the fruits of his labours.  He says the more he gives away, the more reason to go fishing again!  Anyway it's his birthday this week and I decided to honour his fishing prowess.

I stamped on the base card and also on tiny snippets of patterned paper to do some paper piecing.  The bottom is stencilled through confetti waste.  I drew the hanging line and bird footprints freehand.

iSpy #75

 iSpy photo challenge  #75

Each week, Lysha puts up a photographic challenge with prompts for us to look out for, then we share on Lysha's Saturday (my Sunday). Get inspired!

this weeks prompts are: weather, sharpen, by accident, start with N, your choice.

Weather:  June is the first month of our winter and we are having a huge weather event.  While it has been horrible here with rain, thunder and lightning, in other parts of the country there has been hail, snow, tornadoes and incredible rain and wind.  Here was a spot on our  flooded patio with rain patterns, I had to wait for a lighter time of day because it has been so dark with the thunderclouds.

Sharpen:  While unpacking I found these colourful pencils that I keep for the grandchildren:

By Accident.  Well this was an Ikea wardrobe that I store my fabrics etc in.  While moving it from one place to another with a handtruck, our son lost control of it, it tipped over sideways into our car smashing only the taillight assembly.  The car needs a new taillight, but the wardrobe is broken beyond repair, with all the fixings torn out.  It was quite graceful really as it tipped over and hit the car, it just slowly disassembled itself.

Starts with N:  A NOTICE.  I rediscovered this in the move.  My boss brought this back for me years ago when he travelled to US.  Of course I had it on my side of the desk so visitors wouldn't see it.  A bit of fun.

Your choice: the underside of a rose leaf, such a delicate pattern and the veins are almost see-through.

Seascape

In April I started a weekly Tuesday painting class in the TCC retirement village we have moved to, run by one of the residents, Christine.  I didn't like the first painting we did of flowers, basically learning colours and brushes.   I don't think anyone liked the first one. This is the second one which took all of May to complete, learning to do sky and sea and sand.  I am happy with this one.  We all paint the same thing while we are learning.   Acrylic paints on canvas.

This is a different class to the Seasons Art Class on Wednesdays.

Stencilled and embossed - a great background for a bold greeting.  The diecut greeting is placed over a band of vellum which diffuses the background and makes the stacked sentiment look even bolder.

Birthday Football

I made this for one of our grandsons who is a real football fan.

Some of the components are from the 'bits' box on my desk, and are of unknown origin.  I am trying to use up already made bits instead of making more bits!  If you know the brands of these, please tell me and I will acknowledge the maker.

Each week, Lysha puts up a photographic challenge with prompts for us to look out for, then we share on Lysha's Saturday (my Sunday). Get inspired!

I'm back, moved in at the new house, but not unpacked properly yet.

This week the prompts were:  Window view quarterly, happy, nearby, loud, your choice.

Window view quarterly:  The view from the bump-out window looking down the side of the house toward the street.  This is a lovely place to sit with a cuppa, read a book or whatever.  It will take a little time for the garden to grow.

Happy:  This sign at the dental studio is sure to make you feel happy about being there.

Nearby:  At the moment we are in the midst of a building site.  Two houses at the back (the photo) and three houses at the front are being built.  The should all be finished in the next two months.

Loud:  a table saw is noisy (why isn't he wearing ear protection?).  Back at the Rosebanks house Ian is finishing off some new shelves for me to store my crafting stuff on.  Once the new people take over at the end of July he won't have a workshop to do stuff like that.

Your choice:  I have joined an Art class which started this week.  For our first lesson we learned about pencils, crosshatching, shading and ellipses.  This coffee cup is a series of ellipses.  I was pleased with the result.
