First Lieutenant Erik Stevens (born N'Jadaka), also known as Erik Killmonger, is a major antagonist of the first season of What If...?, serving as the titular main protagonist of "What If... Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark?" and one of the two final antagonists (along with Arnim Zola) of "What If... The Watcher Broke His Oath?".

He is a Wakandan-American assassin and mercenary whose father was killed by T'Chaka for betraying Wakanda and helping Klaue steal Vibranium from Wakanda. Unlike his main timeline counterpart, this version of Killmonger saved Tony in Afghanistan and made a friendship with him, using Tony's knowledge and resources to build his own army of drones to promote his own agenda.

Like his main timeline iteration, he was voiced by Michael B. Jordan.

He rescued Tony Stark from Afghanistan and exposed Obadiah Stane.
Overall, he's motivated to avenge his father.
He shows some remorse for having to kill Tony.
He helps the Guardians of the Multiverse defeat Infinity Ultron for good.
He offered to have Captain Carter be with Steve Rogers again.
He prevents Arnim Zola from restoring HYDRA.

Why Isn't He Actually Heroic?[]

All of these acts are done for self-serving reasons:
- He only saved Tony Stark to earn his trust and then manipulate him for his own goals.
- He immediately slipped back to his evil ways by trying to take the stones for himself.
- Although he does defeat Arnim Zola, he only wanted power.
- Not to mention, he refused to change his ways even after being freed by Captain Carter.
He was very lethal as he killed T'Challa, James Rhodes and Tony Stark with little to no remorse, and likely killed some more people in the 1602 timeline.
He was also a huge jerk to his alternate timeline cousin.
