Summary
[edit]DescriptionWilliam Hyde Mill Hand Legerwood Memorial Trees.jpg |
English: A local chainsaw carver created these wooden sculptures in 2004 when the memorial trees planted after World War I were found to be no longer safe. The image depicts Private William Henry Hyde. Born on 1 May 1889, in Longford, Tasmania, Hyde served in the 52nd Battalion and tragically died at the age of 27 on July 7, 1916, in Armetieres, France. A former mill hand with ties to the local sawmill, his sacrifice was honoured with the lowering of the flag and the cessation of mill operations for the day. |
