Description

Closing the Incision 

A fisheries technician closes the tag-insertion incision using sutures after successfully implanting an acoustic-telemetry tag in a juvenile steelhead. This step promotes healing of the surgery site, reduces the risk of infection and also reduces the risk that the tag is expelled from the fish’s body. Two to three sutures are used depending on the length of the incision.
