Description Strijd tussen patriotten en prinsgezinden bij de Kattenburgerbrug, 30 mei 1787. Op dit schilderij is een gevecht te zien tussen de patriotten en oranjegezinden op de Kattenburgerbrug. In mei 1787 kregen de patriotten de macht in het stadsbestuur, wat leidde tot gevechten tussen de oranjegezinde ‘bijltjes’ (scheepstimmerlieden) van Kattenburg en de patriotse burgerwacht. Op het schilderij staan de patriotten op de voorgrond klaar met kanonnen. De oranjegezinde eilandbewoners hebben echter de bruggen opgehaald en kunnen de patriotten daardoor een tijd tegenhouden. Uiteindelijk lukt het de patriotten toch om Kattenburg te bereiken en richten daar een ravage aan. Daarbij komt de aanvoerder van de bijltjes, Johannes Rannink, om het leven.
