[edit]DescriptionStateLibQld 1 141099 Glenavon (ship).jpg |
English: 4,262 GRT cargo steamship Glenavon. Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson built her at Wallsend, England in 1904 as Branksome Hall for Ellerman Lines of Liverpool. About the same time Ellermans took over McGregor, Gow and Co, known as Glen Line. In 1906 Ellermans transferred Branksome Hall to McGregor, Gow, who renamed her Glenavon. In 1911 the ship was transferred back to Ellermans, and her original name was restored to her. In 1918 Branksome Hall left Newport, South Wales with a cargo of coal for Port Said, Egypt. On 14 July the U-boat UB 105 torpedoed her off the coast of Libya. She sank with no loss of life. |
