Summary
[edit]DescriptionRotterdam Reconstructiekaart Anno 1340.jpg |
English: Reconstruction map of Rotterdam in the year 1340 with the dam in the Rotte. Right: the river Rotte. Above: Weena Castle. On the left the castle Bulgersteyn. Detail: Hoogstraat with dam and lock complex. The city archaeologist C. Hoek (1924 - 2013) designed this reconstruction map in 1990 based on old maps, archives and soil investigation.
The city consists of three streets: the Hoogstraat, containing the dam in the Rotte, and on both sides of the Binnenrotte on the left the Oppert and on the right the Lombardstraat. The first buildings along the water are where transport by ship takes place. Outside the city to the west is the Kruiskade, the (Oude) Binnenweg and the Schiedamsedijk. At the top left is the Schie and on the right the Rotte. |
