Description

Rijkswaterstaat en Havenbedrijf Rotterdam hebben de handen ineen geslagen om de Nieuwe Waterweg en de Botlekhavens over een lengte van 25 km anderhalve meter te verdiepen. Deze uitdagende klus is voltooid. Dankzij de verdieping kan nu ook een nieuwe generatie zeeschepen de Rotterdamse haven bereiken. Het werk is verricht terwijl de drukste haven van Europa gewoon door bleef draaien.

Op donderdag 3 oktober verrichten minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructuur en Waterstaat) en Ronald Paul (Chief Operating Officer Havenbedrijf Rotterdam N.V.) vanaf het schip Z8 de openingshandeling van de verdiepte Nieuwe Waterweg en Botlek. De openingshandeling bestaat uit een spectaculair nautisch saluut samen met de schepen van de betrokken aannemers Van der Kamp en Boskalis, de RPA van het Havenbedrijf Rotterdam en de Rotterdam van Rijkswaterstaat. Journalisten en fotografen varen mee met de Nieuwe Maze (schip Havenbedrijf Rotterdam) van waar het nautisch saluut goed te fotograferen/filmen is. Na het nautisch saluut stappen de minister en Ronald Paul over op de Nieuwe Maze om de media te woord te staan.
