| Description | The menacing building with the incongruous fountains used to belong to the State Security Department, the Securitate as English-speaking people sometimes call it. The small statue (which in reality is not so small at all) represents Iuliu Maniu, a true patriot, etc., former head of the National Peasants' Party, former prime-minister and a victim of the said State Security. The statue looks across the street to the monument of Corneliu Coposu, a true patriot, etc., a victim of the same Securitate, but younger and tougher, in that he survived to see Communism toppled and the reborn National Peasants' Party win an election after half a century of oblivion. |
