English: Local school children prepare for a volunteer event to begin at the Kin Town Eco Park April 20 as part of a series of events celebrating Earth Day. Each student was paired with a Marine to pick up trash and plant young mangrove trees. To assist in communication, the school children had English name tags and the Marines had Katakana name tags. The goal of the Earth Day events was to educate volunteers on environmental awareness to help keep the planet healthy. The participating Marines are assigned to various units in III Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Corps Installations Pacific. |
