| Description |
English: Greek naval officer Nikolaos Makkas. On October 4/17, 1912, as commander of small gunboats, “Alpha” and “Beta”, and risking being shot by artillery of the Turkish coastal batteries, he passed with gunboats through narrow (half a mile wide) strait, which created prerequisites for establishing Greek control in the Amvracian Gulf, the capture of the city and fortress Preveza, and also neutralization of Turkish torpedo boats “Antalya” and “Tokat”.
