[edit]DescriptionLombard grave goods from Hagenow - 9-1995.jpg |
English: Contents of Grave 9/1995 in the "Roman graves" necropolis of Hagenow
Grave 9/1995: The undisturbed cremated remains grave of an approximately 55-year-old man ("Warrior of Hagenow") with a complete set of weapons as well as his personal gear. The grave goods were covered with a cloth. Inventory: The Hagenow grave field of the early Roman imperial era consists of 17 urn and ash burials. Three of the graves contained massive golden goods. In addition at least 28 Roman bronze vessels (or fragments of vessels) as well as the remnants of a silver cup (scyphus) were unearthed. Alongside the graves of warriors, burials of women and children have been determined on the basis of anthropological evidence as well as grave goods. They identify the necropolis of Hagenow as the burial place of an Elbe Germanic, possibly Lombard noble family. The great number of Roman goods documents extensive contacts with the Roman world.
