b/w photographs taken mainly during Mary Knocker's nursing training in England and service in France [originally stored in an envelop marked 'French and nursing' and 'England and Amer(ica)']. They include: formal portraits of Sister Knocker; formal and informal group portraits of London Temperance Hospital nursing staff and students; inside an operating theatre, with apparently mock operation taking place; formal and informal shots of soldiers and nurses in and around the grounds of the casualty clearing stations or field hospitals in France, many of which include Sister Knocker [in one photographs can be seen a sign with 'No 9 General Hospital']; Sikh soldiers' camps; casualty clearing stations or field hospitals in the snow; Hospital Barge A. 109, interior and exterior; wounded soldiers outside an unknown convalescent hospital; and one photograph of Mary Knocker holding an unidentified baby.
