Description

This giant lens is used in a lighthouse in Japan for almost 100 years. Since I used to photograph lens, I'm so impressed the size of this lens. I know this is not a photograph lens, but I can't stop thinking about what would it like to take a photo with a lens like this.

灯台で使用されているレンズは一番大きな第1等レンズから最も小さな第6等レンズ、さらに小さな等外という種類があります。第1等レンズを使用した灯台が第1等灯台と呼ばれており、犬吠埼も第1等灯台が使われています。 写真は沖ノ島灯台で1922年(大正11年)から2007年まで使われていた第1等レンズで、レンズ本体の高さ2.53m、直径3.03m、レンズの重量2.65トンもの超巨大レンズです。写真用レンズを見慣れている私は、その巨大さに大きな衝撃を受けました。写真用じゃないとわかってはいるものの、こんなすごいレンズで写真を撮ったらどんなものが撮れるのか妄想が尽きませんw
