Deutsch: Fünf goldene Schrägbalken symbolisieren das Wied-Neuwied'sche Schild. Selters gelangte durch den Herborner Vertrag von 1615 an die Grafen von Wied-Neuwied und gehörte ihnen bis 1806.

Der goldene Nassauer Löwe im blauen Feld erinnert an die Zeit, da Selters dem Herzogtum Nassau gehörte. 1806 traten die Grafen zu Wied das Land an das neu entstandene Herzogtum Nassau ab, zu dem es bis 1866 gehörte. Diese Zeit hat sich in der Bevölkerung besonders eingeprägt, was sich in der Bezeichnung "Nassauer Ländchen" für den Raum Selters wiederspiegelt.

Drei Eichenblätter weisen auf den Westerwaldverein hin, der weithin bekannt ist. Er wurde 1888 in Selters gegründet. Auch als Hinweis auf den Waldreichtum wurden die Eichenblätter als Westerwaldzeichen in das Wappen aufgenommen.
