Le crabe-dormeur, connu sous le nom de tourteau, est un crustacé commun à toute la façade atlantique, ici photographié en rade de Brest. Il affectionne les cavités, de la surface à 100 m de profondeur.

On le reconnaît aux dimensions de sa carapace, qui est deux fois plus large que longue, en forme de tourte, d'une couleur brun-rouge et dont la largeur peut atteindre 30 cm. Il possède 5 paires de pattes, dont de puissantes pinces au bout noir.

The sleeping crab, known as the crab, is a crustacean common to the entire Atlantic coast, here photographed in the harbor of Brest. It likes cavities, from the surface to 100 m deep.

It is recognized by the dimensions of its shell, which is twice as wide as it is long, pie-shaped, reddish-brown in color and can reach 30 cm wide. It has 5 pairs of legs, including powerful pincers with black tips.
