Mayor of Amsterdam Town Hall Amsterdam NEDERLAND , 21.11.1977. T. F. Jnr. 905/1977 Dear Mr. Mayor, Quite privately I am told the response from many of your inhabitants on our decision to stop sending a Christmas tree to your city. We understand the disappointment, although you also understand very well that the cause was the enormous transport-expenses. Now B.D.S. (Bergenske Dampskibsselskap) v/C. Lund, postboks 461, 7001 Trondheim, has offered to take the tree (not bigger than 13 meters) on board the ship ”Merkur” leaving Trondheim 24.11.77, arriving Antwerp ca. 30.11.77. From there the agent in Antwerp has arranged transport by trailer to Amsterdam. Perhaps the tree will come too late for your arrangement and perhaps also the tree will be in so bad condition that it cannot be raised. Please, tell us, as this is an experiment and the only way to get the transport-expences at a reasonable rate. With the hope that the experiment will succeed and with kindest regards Yours sincerely
