Source for map data is missing. El Grafo (talk) 13:51, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Kept, the file is used in es.wiki and therefore better than nothing. The file can be nominated for deletion again, when better alternative appears or when is proven, that the file is wrong. Taivo (talk) 15:55, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

El Grafo said in my talk page, that he nominated the image for deletion not due to scope violation, but due to copyright violation. State borders are not copyrightable, nobody can claim copyright to state border data. So what is here copyrightable? Here are almost nothing except borders. Taivo (talk) 17:24, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Borders are of course not copyrightable but maps and geospatial datasets representing them are. It takes expertise and work to turn real world things like borders (or roads or rivers or …) into something that can be displayed as a map (well, maybe not in the US where basically everything is rectangular ;-). If it weren't for projects like naturalearthdata.com which provide them for free, you'd have to pay companies like ESRI a lot of money to get a shapefile with data like this. --El Grafo (talk) 20:36, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
