Not copyrightable in the US but likely copyrightable in its country of origin China. See also Commons:Deletion requests/File:Genshin Impact logo.svg. Aasim (talk) 18:31, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I oppose your deletion request. If a company logo from China has the potential to be copyrighted even though the logo only uses Latin text (without using simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese characters), why don't you also add a deletion nomination file to the Lenovo, Oppo, Xiaomi, Realme, etc.? logos. The brand I mentioned comes from China too. Astrinko (talk) 02:48, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Keep, Some logos from China that only contain latin text are still on Wikimedia Commons and cannot be deleted (see on File:Lenovo logo 2015.svg and File:OPPO LOGO 2019.svg). China's legal threshold copyright protection on text-only logos is low, so these logos do not deserve copyright protection (unless the logo uses Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese characters, and have graphic and artistic value). Please see COM:TOO#China. The LY logo and K2 logo were all determined to be copyrightable in China, the latter originating from the US and so can be included on Commons. We can only include media on Commons if they are free both in the US and in their country of origin. Aasim (talk) 06:03, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The LY and K2 logos are copyright protected by Chinese state courts because both logos have graphic and artistic value.

So, does the HoYo-Mix logo have graphic and artistic value? Of these logos, the HoYo-Mix logo is only text and has no graphic or artistic value, so it is impossible for the logo to meet the copyright threshold. Astrinko (talk) 06:55, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Artistic value" is subjective, and copyright is messy. That is why we have copyright courts to rule on this stuff. :)
Anyway, from the top of the COM:TOO page: It is usually impossible to determine whether a specific image is within the threshold of originality without a judicial decision. However, per precautionary principle, the image should be deleted if there is significant doubt that the image is not copyrighted. Aasim (talk) 07:10, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need to doubt the copyright on the HoYo-Mix logo. The HoYo-Mix logo is only text and has no artistic or graphic value, I am sure that the logo does not meet the threshold requirements for copyright protection. Astrinko (talk) 07:37, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because the HoYo-Mix logo is only text, there are no graphics or Chinese calligraphy characters, the logo has no graphics or artistic value. Therefore, the HoYo-Mix logo does not meet the requirements for copyright protection in China. So, it's best to  Keep the logo on Wikimedia Commons. Oppose. The request you made is quite strange. If you request deleted of a logo for the reason of simply being a "registered trademark", the logo does not need to be deleted from Wikimedia Commons, simply edit the license description of the file by adding tags {{Trademark}}. Wikimedia Commons accepts logo files even though they are protected by trademarks, as long as they are not allowed to upload logos that contain elements of copyright protection. The "{{Trademark}}" license tag already exists on Wikimedia Commons. Astrinko (talk) 17:18, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikimedia Commons has pretty strict copyright rules. I believe you have seen my previous uploads of this image (e.g., w:en:File:HOYO-MiX logo.png), and they all have the statement "Do not copy this file to Wikimedia Commons" under the "Licensing" section. You don't need to test this yourself, friend. SuperGrey (talk) 19:50, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
