The Tick is a character created in 1986 by cartoonist Ben Edlund as a mascot for the New England Comics stores' in-house newsletter, and the main character of the media franchise of the same name. A surrealistic parody of American comic superheroes, he is a square-jawed, muscular figure in a bright blue costume with antennae sticking up from his head. He is well-intended, high-spirited, and frequently obtuse, often making odd remarks and "inspirational" speeches consisting of strange metaphors. He possesses superhuman strength (which can cause great damage to his surroundings if he is not careful), nigh-invulnerability (though he is vulnerable to feeling pain, with his antennae being particularly sensitive), and "drama power" (a tendency for his powers to increase as the situation becomes more dramatic).
Appearances in Christmas specials[]
The Tick[]
When the Tick starred in his own animated series on Fox Kids, this naturally included a Christmas episode in its second season, "The Tick Loves Santa!" He is revealed to be a huge fan of Santa Claus, mistaking a bank robber for the real guy, and later being unable to bring himself to fight the fake Kringle after he gains the ability to create clones of himself. It takes a pep talk from the real Santa to get him to finally go after the Multiple Santas.
Other Christmas productions[]
During the years that Fox Kids broadcast The Tick, whenever a whole morning of Christmas/holiday-themed episodes was aired, the Tick's voice would be heard announcing these episodes as being part of Fox's "Cool Yule", with the character himself briefly appearing in a head-shot with antlers instead of his usual antennae.
The Tick is one of the costumed characters who appears in the Holiday Wintertainment parade in the film Jingle All the Way.
