Peter Venkman Ph.D. is one of the main characters from the 1984 film Ghostbusters and its sequel, Ghostbusters II, as well as the animated series, The Real Ghostbusters. Played by Bill Murray in the original films, he is a parapsychologist who unofficially leads the eponymous team of paranormal investigators, often making the decisions of whether or not the Ghostbusters will take a case.
Peter has a prominent part in The Real Ghostbusters Christmas episode, "Xmas Marks the Spot", in which the Ghostbusters change the future when they accidentally travel back in time and capture the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future before Ebenezer Scrooge is reformed. It is revealed in this episode that Peter has never enjoyed Christmas because his father, Jim was never there for him, which has soured his outlook on the holiday. As such, he is the most hostile to the holiday at first, but comes around to treasure it after his attempt at filling in for the Ghost of Christmas Past.
