Spotting refers to the outlining or marking of enemies, and is a gameplay mechanic featured in Call of Duty: WWII, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Call of Duty: WWII[]
Spotting is one of the Squad Abilities functions in the Call of Duty: WWII campaign. In the Campaign, William Pierson is one of the characters that has the spotting ability and he spots enemies with a white outline to help the player.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare[]
In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone, enemy players can be marked via the Recon Drone, Snapshot Grenade or the Spotter Scope. Doing so will display a red diamond over the enemy player or unit.
Exclusively in Warzone, the perk Combat Scout will briefly highlight enemies when damaged.
Call of Duty: Vanguard[]
Spotting makes its return in Call of Duty: Vanguard through the Multiplayer perk, Piercing Vision.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II[]
Spotting returns in Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 where it functions like its Modern Warfare counterpart, featuring the return of the Recon Drone, Snapshot Grenade and Spotter Scope.
Additionally, the Field Upgrade, Snapshot Pulse, will highlight enemies in the Spec Ops mode.
In Warzone 2.0, the Combat Scout perk returns marking enemies when damaged.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III[]
Spotting once again appears in Modern Warfare III, Warzone and Warzone Mobile where it functions like past iterations, bringing back the Recon Drone, Snapshot Grenade and Spotter Scope in Multiplayer, and the Snapshot Pulse in the Campaign mode.
Alongside that, the Snapshot Arrows available for the Torque 35 allow the capability for spotting.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6[]
Spotting returns in Black Ops 6 functioning like in other iterations.
