"Scrub, scrub, scrub. All I ever get to do is cleaning!!"
―Roger Robot[1]

Roger Robot,[2] or Robot Roger,[3] is a Classic Space brick-built figure introduced in 1986.

Description[]

Roger Robot consists of six pieces, which are mostly grey and black with the exception of the transparent red Round Plate 1X1 - Tr. serving as his eyepiece. His base is a grey Rocket Step Small 1X1; his body is a grey Brick 1X1 W. 4 Knobs; each arm is a black Holder 16 MM; and his head is a Mini Antenna with a grey base and black lever.

Roger Robot is frequently equipped with an earth orange Mini Broom in the comic advertisements, although this is not included in 6702 Space Mini-Figures.

Background[]

Roger Robot is a cleaning robot for the LEGOLAND Space expedition, typically assigned to scrub the ships and bases with his broom. However, he is frustrated by this tedious work, and his curiosity often gets him into trouble.

Roger Robot is one of the main characters of the LEGOLAND Space comic advertisements released in 1986. In Forsknings-resa i det okända, Commander Black accuses Roger Robot of going into the Cosmic Fleet Voyager's computer and causing a cooling system error. Roger is tired from scrubbing and falls asleep aboard the ship.[2] In The mysterious Planet, he wakes up while the Cosmic Fleet Voyager is spiraling out of control. Commander Black forces Roger to clean the newly constructed planet station once they land on the mysterious planet.[1] In En planet full av över-raskningar, Roger Robot discovers that the planet is hollow and inhabited on the inside. He rushes to inform the spacemen, who praise him for his discovery.[4] In Möte i rymden, Robot Roger meets Robot OK from the planet's interior, and the two robots demonstrate the new LEGO sound and light bricks.[3]

Roger Robot continues to appear in the 1987 comic advertisements for Futuron. In Rogers äventyr i framtiden, Roger Robot and Commander Black emerge from the "time tunnel" and discover the Monorail Transport System, where they ride a monorail to the center of the Transport System.[5] In Försvunna i rymden?, Roger Robot and Commander Black meet Major White, who gives them a tour of the Transport System and lets them ride the Stardefender "200", but Roger pushes a button that causes the Stardefender to split into three smaller spacecrafts.[6]

Notes[]

  • Roger Robot's name may be a reference to the fictional character Roger Rabbit from the 1981 novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit?. Alternatively, it may just be an alliterative pun on the affirmative term "roger", which is supported by the similarly named Robot OK in Möte i rymden.
