Modular Buildings Collection is a sub-theme of Creator introduced in 2007, which features large, detailed, connectable buildings, primarily aimed at older teenage and adult fans of LEGO. To date there have been nine sets ranging from fire houses to town halls. Each set costs around £100 GBP/$150 USD except for the more expensive 10224 Town Hall , 10243 Parisian Restaurant, and the 10th Anniversary 10255 Assembly Square and the cheaper 10182 Café Corner and 10190 Market Street.

Notes[]

  • All sets in the series feature a number of common attributes. These attributes include:
    • A light-grey tiled curb one stud in width.
    • Dark grey tiled sidewalk.
    • Metallic grey grille elements acting as storm drains
    • A white fluted lamp post with a translucent-clear minifig head acting as the lamp and topped with a white 2 x 2 dish.
    • The buildings themselves are placed approximately 7 studs away from the front edge of their baseplates, although this can vary based on other decorations and structures along the front face of the buildings.
    • All buildings go edge-to-edge on two sides of their baseplates to enable the buildings to lock together side by side. For straight-side buildings, the two edge sides are opposite of one another; for corner buildings, the two edge sides are perpendicular.
    • On each flush edge, two 1 x 2 Technic bricks with a single hole in the side, mounted at the base of the building exactly 10-11 and 22-23 studs from the curbside edge. These act as mounting points so that 1 x 2 technic pins can be placed in them and the buildings can lock together and remain flush.
  • All of the sets before 2018 include minifigures with the classic face (except 10190 Market Street as it has newer ones).
  • All of the sets before 2021 have a recommended age of 16+ except 10224 Town Hall, which is recommended for 14+, and 10190 Market Street, which is recommended for 10+. From 2021 onward, the modular buildings were under the 18+ branding.
  • The sets 80107 Spring Lantern Festival, 76178 Daily Bugle, 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum, 76269 Avengers Tower, 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion, 75978 Diagon Alley, 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank - Collectors' Edition, 910002 Studgate Train Station, 910008 Modular Construction Site, 910009 Modular LEGO Store, 910023 Venetian Houses, and 910034 Brick Cross Train Station are compatible with the Modular Buildings series, though they are not officially part of the series.
    • The sets 70620 Ninjago City, 70657 Ninjago City Docks, 71741 Ninjago City Gardens, and 71799 Ninjago City Markets are also compatible with the Modular Buildings series, but do not have aesthetics that match the other Modulars and are often only displayed with each other.
    • 76178 Daily Bugle, 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum, 76269 Avengers Tower, and 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion are part of a parallel line of modulars that share many of the design aesthetics of the regular modulars, but also have their own common attributes:
      • Commonalities include the light-grey curbing, the dark-grey footpath (sidewalk), the metallic silver grills as storm drains, and usually include a lamp-post of identical design to the Creator/Icons(/Factory) modulars.
      • Differences from mainstream modulars include:
        • The lamp posts being black, rather than white.
        • Most buildings do not go edge-to-edge on two sides of their baseplates.
        • Some of the buildings (Daily Bugle & Avengers Tower) use notably much more modern architectural styles than any mainstream modulars have.
      • Commonalities shared among Marvel modulars that are unique to them include:
        • A black fluted lamp post with a translucent-clear minifig head acting as the lamp and topped with a white 2 x 2 dish (with the exception of 76178 Daily Bugle which does not have a lamp post).
        • A Yellow dumpster (or two) out back.
        • Broken dark-grey pavement out the back.
        • Boxes out the back. Just "cardboard" boxes.
        • Most buildings do not go edge-to-edge on two sides of their baseplates.
          • 76178 Daily Bugle and 76296 Avengers Tower do not go edge-to-edge on any side.
          • 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum only goes edge-to-edge on one side.
        • Due to a mistake made in the Daily Bugle, no Marvel modular set has the regular connection points.
          • The Daily Bugle has one of its connection points in the wrong spot. Consequently, it can only connect with regular modulars on one side (unless the problem is fixed - which is very simple).
          • Due to this mistake, every other set in the line has on one side of the building, a 1 x 4 Technic brick with a three holes in the side. This allows for them to connect with the Daily Bugle or with any regular Modular on any side.
    • 910013 Retro Bowling Alley and 21353 The Botanical Garden share many commonalities with the Modular Series, but do not have connection points to enable them to connect.
  • With all of these sets together you get a grand total of 30 modular sets.
  • Most of the Modular Buildings appear in LEGO media including The LEGO Movie and LEGO City Undercover.
