Mizar is a Martian from the Life on Mars theme, introduced in 2001.

Description[]

Mizar uses the standard Martian build, with sand purple torso and legs and bright bluish green arms and head. His head is printed with a large grey and sand purple face mask that covers everything except for his eyes.

Background[]

Mizar is friends with Altair, and he pities Earthlings for having homework and oxygen instead of space cruisers and canned jellied ralonna wings. After searching unsuccessfully searching for the crew of the Solar Explorer, he rides the Aero Tube Hangar in his hypersled and catches debris from exploding Biodium (caused by sabotage from Martian rebels) to prevent damage to his ship.^[1] With the help of the astronauts, he rebuilds a damaged Recon-Mech RP to avoid rebel patrols.^[2] Afterward, he searches for stolen Biodium and the Solar Explorer in his Red Planet Protector with the help of Antares. They discover the minerals and ship in a hole guarded by canyon Martians,^[3] and after they are rescued by other Martians, Mizar radios the astronauts to let them know about their shuttle's location.^[4]

• Mizar is the only Martian to narrate an entry of the Mars Log. While the audio recording has not been archived, fan recollection describes his voice having a distorted effect, similar to speaking through a fan.
• Mizar's name is misspelled Rizar in the Shop At Home January 2001 catalog.^[5]
