- This article is about the Mars Mission minifigure. For the Space Police set, see 6986 Mission Commander.
The Mission Commander, also known as Jaz,[1] is a Mars Mission minifigure.
Description[]
The Mission Commander wears the standard Mars Mission astronaut white and orange spacesuit, with a white helmet and gold visor. He reuses the newer 2004 variant of the male actor's face from the Studios horror subtheme, which has finer printing and no alternate facial expression.
Background[]
The Mission Commander has had more experience in space travel than any other Astro. He has dealt with many crises in the past, but nothing comparable to the Aliens encountered on Mars.
In Space Adventures - Mars Alien Attack, Jaz is not the Mission Commander; instead, he reports to another unnamed commander. Jaz and Gunner are on scanning duty when a pocket of almost 100% pure crystals appears on the screen. They jump in the MX-81 and fly out to the dangerous Ares Canyon to get the Crystals. Jaz is worried that there might be hiding aliens but Gunner reassures him. They land and pick up the very pure crystals, then they fly off to tell commander at the Eagle Command Base. Suddenly, an alien Speeder comes and fires, but is quickly blown up by Jaz. After Jaz shows him the pure crystals, the commander allows them to continue their mission. The next day at sunset, the two astronauts head to the canyon and mine all night. After an earthquake, they notice a few aliens in the sky, and they hide until the aliens leave. Jaz and Gunner head out and leave the canyon, but alien ships attack and cause the MX-81 to malfunction and fly into a dust storm. The aliens get lost in the dust and the two astronauts manage to park their ship at Eagle Command just as the engine dies. The commander congratulates Jaz and Gunner.
Notes[]
- The Mission Commander's design is the most frequently used astronaut in Mars Mission marketing, often appearing in commercials, animations, artwork, and other promotional materials.
- In Crystalien Conflict, the Astro Special Ops 3 "Green" level's intro text refers to Commander Galaxy, suggesting that Galaxy may be the Mission Commander's name.
- In Crystalien Conflict, the Mission Commander's minifigure is used on the HUD thumbnail for the Jetpack Explorer. The same design is used by various astronauts in the game's animated cutscenes.
- The Mission Commander does not appear in 4850307 LEGO Battles, which features Gemma and Biff as the astronaut commanders instead.
