7740 Inter-City Passenger Train Set is a 12V Trains set released in 1980. It contains ten minfigures and 786 pieces.
As the original flagship set of the "Grey Era" 12V system, it remains one of the best known and therefore most sought after Lego Trains of all time, and attracts particularly high values on the used market.
Description[]
The set consists of a locomotive, a passenger car, buffet/restaurant car and a platform. The locomotive incorporates the lighting elements (also available separately as part of 7861 Lighting Set Electric 12V) which power the front and rear lights when the train is moving.
As with all Lego trains of the era, the supplied sticker set allows the train to be decorated in the liveries of several European railway networks (e.g. Deutsche Bahn, SNCF, British Rail etc.), although Deutsche Bahn (DB) is the default option.

- Sets 7815 Passenger Carriage / Sleeper and 7819 Postal Container Wagon seem to be expansions for this set.
- The Locomotive seems to be loosely based on the DB Class 103 Locomotives.
