The Torrent of the Soul King's Power (霊王の力の奔流, Reiō no Chikara no Honryū) is a unique technique used by the Quincy Emperor Yhwach after he had absorbed the Soul King.[1]
Description[]
Shūhei Hisagi holds up one of the creatures comprising the Torrent of the Soul King's Power.
After absorbing his father, Adnyeus, Yhwach gains access to the incomparably vast power of the former, which manifests itself in the form of countless, tiny, black, baby-like,[2] single-eyeballed creatures that swarm from Yhwach himself. These creatures do not appear to possess sentience, but will actively and only target Shinigami due to them being the "enemies of the Soul King", ignoring other nearby spiritual beings like Quincy in the process.[3] When attacking Shinigami, the creatures will swarm them in droves[4] and attempt to devour them with sharp fangs.[5][1]
Weaknesses[]
The creatures are destroyed by Aizen's Reiatsu.
While the creatures manifested by the Torrent of the Soul King's Power are resistant to physical attacks,[6] they can easily be crushed by intense Reiatsu[7] and can be obliterated entirely by high-level Hadō spells such as Kurohitsugi.[8]
Trivia[]
- The eyecatcher of Episode 397 offers several in-universe theories on why the Soul King's essence automatically attacked the Seireitei when Yhwach absorbed him; from that is a manifestation of an unconscious resentment towards the fact that the Soul King was sealed away by the Shinigami, that the Soul King's true identity was a Quincy and he harbored a grudge against Shinigami, or that Yhwach's own will was mixed in with the torrent.[9]
