Suì-Fēng vs. BG9 is a fight taking place during the second invasion of the Quincy Blood War, focusing upon the second conflict between 2nd Division Captain Suì-Fēng and Sternritter "K" BG9.
Prelude[]
As the Seireitei is invaded by the Wandenreich for the second time, at the former location of his family mansion, 2nd Division Lieutenant Marechiyo Ōmaeda looks up at the Wandenreich city around him while internally questioning what happened and where the mansion went. With nearby Shinigami attempting to rally at the former location of their barracks, a scared Marechiyo laments this happening while his captain, Suì-Fēng, is gone and wonders what he is supposed to do. Suddenly, a tearful and trembling Mareyo Ōmaeda pulls on his shihakushō and begs him to not leave because she is scared, even promising that he does not have to play with her anymore. In turn, Marechiyo kneels, insists he has to go, and assures Mareyo he is not doing so to scare her, but rather to protect her, the rest of his family, their neighbors, and all of Soul Society as a member of the Gotei 13.[2]
Suddenly, with Marechiyo telling Mareyo to not cry and promising to come back safely, Sternritter "K" BG9 slams into the ground near them, leading Marechiyo to recognize him as the one who stole Suì-Fēng's Bankai.[3] Shortly afterward, Marechiyo is slammed against a wall by BG9, who levels a tendril at him and demands to know where his captain is, noting that it is the third time he is asking and that he is hoping for an answer this time since he could not locate Suì-Fēng's Reiatsu anywhere inside or beyond the Seireitei using samples from their last battle.[4]
In response to BG9 interpreting him claiming to not know as a refusal to answer, Marechiyo calls BG9 an idiot for not understanding he does not know where his captain is, particularly since he was not told where she would be going and would let it slip out even if he were ordered not to tell anyone because of his personality, and proclaims there is no reason to hide her because she would not lose to someone like him anyway. However, BG9 simply decides to ask him in another way and fires his tendril into a nearby building, which crumbles as he raises the tendril into the air. Though Marechiyo questions what this is supposed to do, he is stunned to see Mareyo impaled on the tendril while she weakly calls out to him.[5]
Having deduced that Mareyo is a member of Marechiyo's family from their Reiatsu similarities despite their differing appearances, BG9 informs Marechiyo that he has detected three other individuals with similarly matching Reiatsu within a 30-meter radius and promises that all of them will die the next time Marechiyo refuses to answer him. In response, a furious Marechiyo slams his Shikai, Gegetsuburi, into the side of BG9's helmet and demands that he let Mareyo go, only for an unfazed BG9 to state that he has two questions, ask if he can interpret this as a refusal to answer, and embed three tendrils into Marechiyo's left shoulder as he warns the latter that letting Mareyo go now will cause her to lose a large volume of bodily fluids and die, which he wonders if Marechiyo is fine with.[6]
After deflecting Marechiyo's following attack with Gegetsuburi by pushing it aside with three more tendrils, one of which he stabs into Marechiyo's right shoulder, BG9 assumes that Marechiyo has lost his speech from shock and offers him a 15-second reprieve in order to provide an answer, but Marechiyo merely proclaims that BG9 is dead and will be made to pay for this. While he observes that the fifteen seconds are up, BG9 reveals his Reishi Minigun and opens fire on a cursing Marechiyo, only to find the barrel broken off seconds later as Suì-Fēng holds the broken part in one hand, drops the bullets he fired from the other, and muses that BG9 is much more advanced than she expected since Quincy are supposed to use bows and arrows.[7]
Battle[]
BG9 notes there was no reading on his sensors to indicate her presence, and when Suì-Fēng questions if he did not think the Onmitsukidō could conceal their Reiatsu, BG9 lists off her titles and notices the wind-like Kidō swirling behind her shoulders. With Suì-Fēng revealing that this is Shunkō and pointing out how BG9 should know this from the amount of data he has on her, BG9 describes it as the highest form of Hakuda that has practitioners bear Kidō on their backs and shoulders, but asserts that Suì-Fēng's should be unperfected. However, Suì-Fēng questions if he believed she would let it stay unperfected and reveals that she perfected it after her battle with Yoruichi Shihōin, with her training until today having been focused on improving it even further. Fully unleashing the wind-like Kidō around her body, Suì-Fēng explains that her Shunkō is wind-like, allowing her to wrap her body in a vortex of Reiatsu that she can maintain indefinitely.[8]
After thanking BG9 since she may not have been able to improve her Shunkō this much without losing her Bankai, Suì-Fēng moves down next to BG9, identifies this as Mukyū Shunkō, and unleashes a powerful blast from her fist that sends BG9 hurtling back. Moments later, however, a shocked Suì-Fēng stops walking away from the dust cloud left by her attack as BG9's eye glows from within.[9] Upon seeing a tendril hurtling toward her from the dust cloud, Suì-Fēng grabs it and swings around to slam BG9 through multiple buildings. With Suì-Fēng expressing disbelief that he is still breathing, BG9 emerges without his cloak and states that he was never breathing to begin with.[10]
As Suì-Fēng muses that 12th Division Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi would be intrigued by a mechanical doll like BG9, dozens of missile pods emerge from his body, to Suì-Fēng's alarm, and BG9 thanks her for providing him with useful data on her Mukyū Shunkō, but expresses disappointment at this being the extent of her power since it means he will have no need of the Bankai he stole from her before firing off all the missiles to engulf the surrounding area in explosions. While Marechiyo calls out to her in concern, Suì-Fēng leaps out of one of the clouds of smoke with light burns covering her body, though otherwise unharmed.[11]
Though she proclaims that it will take more than this to put her down, Suì-Fēng is caught off-guard when BG9 impales her wrist with one of his tendrils, catches up to her in midair, and reminds her that he has received useful data on Mukyū Shunkō prior to engulfing her in a massive explosion.[12] Some time later, Marechiyo see a Shin'eiyaku on the ground near them while Kisuke Urahara explains that he has sent these to them and that they will react to anyone who possesses Bankai that touches them with a hand, foot, or sword by evaporating from the touchpoint and permeating the inner part of the recipient's Soul.[13]
Above him, BG9 kneels over an incapacitated Suì-Fēng behind a Reishi wall and extends tendrils from his chest toward her body, but Marechiyo grabs her and moves her to a nearby rooftop with Shunpo before the tendrils can reach her. Expressing surprise at Marechiyo still being able to move, BG9 dissipates the wall and stands up. As BG9 states that he wished to extract more data from Suì-Fēng before she dies, Marechiyo drops a Shin'eiyaku into Suì-Fēng's palm, causing it to evaporate in a golden glow, and tells her that it should bring her Bankai back, though he admits he did not understand Urahara's explanation.[14]
However, when BG9 begins walking toward them and asks Marechiyo to speak up since the sensitivity of his sonic collector automatically drops after a close-range explosion, he stumbles and realizes with disbelief that his connection is weakening, prompting Suì-Fēng to inform him that her Hollowfied Bankai is weakening him. Though Marechiyo is startled by her having heard the announcement as well, Suì-Fēng counters that it was impossible for her to stay asleep with that annoying voice in her ear and activates her Bankai, Jakuhō Raikōben before ordering Marechiyo to brace himself, which he readily affirms.[15]
With BG9 frantically questioning why her Bankai is with her, Suì-Fēng suggests he analyze it himself and fires the missile at BG9, who is lifted high into the air and engulfed in a massive explosion that blasts through the clouds,[16] leaving him defeated with a large hole blown in his helmet.[17]
Aftermath[]
Some time later, several Sternritter, including BG9, have their Quincy: Vollständig automatically activate in pillars of Reishi in response to the Shinigami reclaiming their Bankai, with Yhwach proclaiming that the Shinigami will soon regret regaining their Bankai and that the hope-filled battles are now over because true despair begins here.[18] In the aftermath, Sternritter "A" Uryū Ishida appears from a Shadow next to BG9 as the latter states that his damage has been repaired by 45%.[19] That night, BG9 and Cang are tied against two posts within Silbern, where Yhwach announces that judgement of the defeated is about to commence.[20]
With Haschwalth coming forward, though BG9 pleads with him to let them continue to fight since they were revived by Quincy: Vollständig after their defeats, Yhwach merely observes that they were fortunate to escape death before Haschwalth draws his broadsword and asserts that while Cang and BG9 should be grateful for their good fortune, battles should be fair and lives that were saved by good fortune will be removed with an equal amount of misfortune.[21] BG9 proceeds to watch as Haschwalth is briefly stopped by Cang's The Iron, but after reversing Cang's fortunes with The Balance and killing him, Haschwalth cuts down BG9 as well.[22]
