Visenya's Hill is one of the three hills that lie within the city of King's Landing, the others being the Hill of Rhaenys and Aegon's High Hill. It is named after Visenya Targaryen, a sister-queen of King Aegon I Targaryen.

Geography

Atop Visenya's Hill lies the Great Sept of Baelor,[1] while at its base are a cluster of small streets[2] and the Guildhall of the Alchemists.[3] Chambers beneath the Great Sept extend into the heart of the hill.[4]

The Street of the Sisters runs between the Hill of Rhaenys and Visenya's Hill.[1] An old inn on Eel Alley is found halfway up the hill.[1]

History

The hill became known as Visenya's Hill as King's Landing grew after Aegon's Landing; its original name is now forgotten.[5] A grand sept was built on Visenya's Hill with funding from one of the High Septons during the reign of King Aegon I Targaryen.[6]

King Aenys I Targaryen lived in a manse atop Visenya's Hill while the Red Keep was under construction, but he relocated to Dragonstone amid tensions with the Faith Militant.[7] During the Faith Militant uprising, King Maegor I Targaryen raised the red dragon of House Targaryen atop Visenya's Hill to rally his supporters.[8]

During the Dance of the Dragons, Sheepstealer landed on Visenya's Hill as part of the fall of King's Landing.[9] The child Gaemon Palehair, said to be a bastard of Aegon II Targaryen, was briefly acclaimed a king during the civil war and made his seat at the hill's House of Kisses.[10]

The wedding of Aegon III Targaryen and Jaehaera Targaryen was held atop Visenya's Hill after the Dance ended, with towering grandstands built for noble guests.[11] A branch of the Rogare Bank was opened on Visenya's Hill during the Lysene Spring.[12]

Construction of the Great Sept began during the reign of Baelor I Targaryen.[13]
